About
Wren works where the river gives up and becomes ocean.
Based in Astoria, Oregon, Wren Halloway has spent a decade photographing the Columbia bar and the towns that live off it. The work moves slowly — a series takes seasons, sometimes years — and much of it ends up back in the darkroom as photogravure, printed by hand on a 1912 etching press named Doris.
Prints are held in private collections across the Pacific Northwest, and the documentary series The Last Cannery was shortlisted for the Cascadia Photobook Prize. When not shooting, Wren teaches a small tintype workshop out of the studio each August.
